Video lectures

Video lectures are one of the leading modes of e-learning. Currently, there are a million videos available on the internet, you can find hundreds of videos for any topic. Therefore while making a lecture video the question that arises is how to make an engaging video lecture that attracts an audience and gets as many views as possible.

Therefore, in this blog, we will overview

Some tips to make our video lecture more engaging to the audience:

Know your audience: -

To make an engaging lecture it is important to know your audience. Try to find out what motivates them, what they lack, and what they expect from you. Once you have these details, you can tailor your video according to your audience, making it more engaging for them. For example, if your audience engages in content that focuses more on application-based knowledge rather than theoretical knowledge, you can add numerals to your videos to motivate them.

Improve video quality: -

Videos with good quality get far more engagement compared to low-quality videos. If your video has good quality, your audience will be able to view it on any device no matter the size of the screen, and will also be able to see all the text. For example, you are solving an equation in the video but your quality is low and the variables are not visible to the student, so he or she would not even watch the completed video, hence decreasing your engagement.

Keep them short: -

The engagement drops after 10 min. Compared to long videos, short videos are far more engaging. This is the reason why you should break your lesson into segments of about 8 to 12 minutes. It is easier for a student to digest the lesson when it's broken into small segments, and it is also easier to record multiple small lectures compared to the long ones.

Find your style: -

Every teacher has his or her unique method of teaching. Try to find the method that suits you best, and don't be afraid to explore new territories. You can explore different types of online videos; Animated, lectures, and presentations.

Try to maintain the flow: -

Make sure that you are following a structure in your videos, as you would follow in an offline class. This means that try to teach each topic in a sequence that maintains the flow of the lecture. This can help you to keep your audience engaged throughout your course.

Try to be fast and enthusiastic: -

Videos with fast and enthusiastic speakers are more engaging compared to others. So, try to be more enthusiastic and faster to keep your audience excited and engaged with the video. The audience can decrease the speed if they feel you are going too fast.

Use multimedia: -

Add visual resources like images or presentations to your video to make it more engaging to your student. Visual aids usually enhance the learning process, make it easier for the student to understand the topic, and help them to focus on the lecture. You can use images, graphs, presentations, and animation and you can even record your device's screen and add it to the lecture. Remember to use the visual strategically.

Keep it interactive: -

Let it be offline or online lecture interaction is an important aspect of it. Interaction between the teacher and student keeps the class engaged and also helps students to understand the lesson. It may seem impossible to interact in online courses, but there are numerous methods to this. You can embed a quiz into your course using online tools, you can give an assignment at the end of every video and give the solution at the beginning of the next lecture, this helps you build a strong connection with your audience.

Be Yourself: -

Lastly, remember to yourself and act naturally. It's okay to stumble over a word, just correct yourself naturally, this shows your student your true personality and helps you to connect with them. Record a test video, try to examine it, and make improvements accordingly.

These are some tips you can use to make your lecture video engaging. It is difficult to make a lecture video as engaging as a face-to-face lecture, but using various methods mentioned above you can try to replicate face-to-face class engagement as closely as possible in your lecture videos.
